Manic Monday

Ugh.

Here we are, another Monday, another week ahead of us. Yippy.

The weekend was good. I love the weekend. Saturday we didn't do a whole lot. I ran in the morning, my friend Lynne came over for lunch. Then one of Keller's little friends, Landon, had a birthday party. Then I went out with friends for a much needed night out on the town.

Mary, Melissa, Mark (Melissa's hubby), Eric (Mark's brother who is in the band Black Gold), and Melissa's friend Susan went out drinking in Bethesda. We went to dinner at the yummy Olazzo first and then to Caddies for about 800 vodka tonics. Needless to say, we had a great time and Sunday morning was a bit ugly for me.

Yes, I finally got myself out of bed around 10:30 on Sunday. Then we went over to the pool. The sun helped me feel better. I wasn't hung over in the traditional sense of the word, it was more of just a protest on the part of my stomach. I just can't hang anymore. I'm old.

After the pool, we took naps (our usual Sunday afternoon activity). We then went to Trader Joe's, which has become my new favorite place. Seriously, I love that place and everything in it. I want to live there.

When the alarm went off this morning, I thought about throwing across the room, but just didn't have the energy. I was meeting my friend Connie to run. And I had to conserve. The run went well but I'm pretty tired.

I have to vent for a moment. My work computer sucks giant ass. It is so slow that I think I lose about 3 days of life between waiting and being angry over it. Come on! It's 2008 and we should not have to wait 5 minutes for a computer to boot up. Not to mention the wait to open a freaking document in Word. Whew. That's all about that.

Happy Monday, people.

I'm So Tired

How is it that The Beatles have a song that fits every single situation? As you may or may not remember, I use song titles/lyrics/etc. as the titles of my posts (you're supposed to guess who sings it! It's a game!). I've been trying to mix it up and not put titles from The Beatles, but sometimes that's really all there is that fits.

I am so freaking glad this week is over and we have a 3-day weekend. Work wasn't necessarily busy, but it was hectic. Things just popping up here and there that need immediate attention. And in between busy days at work, I was looking at schools, making phone calls, and generally drowning in worry over Keller. But I believe we've found a school for him that will be wonderful. I feel really good about this place and I hope with everything that it will be all right for Keller.

Speaking of Keller, I do have a funny story to share. After school yesterday, I took Keller to the pool. I brought all his stuff and planned on changing him there in the restroom. But there was a swim meet going on and it was a little chaotic when we got there, so we just went straight to the pool. I was changing him in the corner by the edge of the area, next to the fence that surrounds the pool. I took his diaper off and he started to pee. I told him to stop, which he did, and we went over to the fence and I told him to pee out onto the grass. Which he did. I think he liked peeing through the fence. It was pretty hilarious.

So, even through crappy weeks, we can still manage to find something funny. And my sweet husband got me a gift of massages for the next 3 months! I am a lucky person. And I know things will work out in the end.

Happy Independence Day! Power to the People!

Where Have All The Cowboys Gone?

All right, people.

I realize this blog hasn't exactly been the most exciting thing in the world. But I'm trying. I put a poll on the site. Doesn't that count for something? Where the hell are ya?

Things in my neck of the woods have been pretty damn depressing. Let's face it, they've sucked. Too much death for my taste. But aside from that, I am always wondering if the things I would like to write about are all that interesting for anyone reading.

Like today, there was a water main break in Montgomery County and the whole freaking county has gone bananas. They've closed all the government buildings, one of which houses Keller's school, as well as put water-use restrictions out, and they've issued a water-boil advisory. You have to boil the water for a minute and then use it for anything that would cause you to consume the water. So, brushing your teeth, cooking, washing dishes, etc. But we're actually not allowed to do any of those things because of the water-use restrictions.

Almost all of the people in my office live in Prince George's or Anne Arundel County. They don't have any water problems right now. So, tomorrow, when I show up un-showered without my teeth brushed, I wonder what they'll think. Thank goodness for those Noxema wipes that don't require water.

I was reading the article on the Washington Post's website and the comments people are leaving are hysterical. Seriously, people have way too much time on their hands. Some people are basically saying that because MoCo is a rich county, it almost serves us right that we now have to boil our water before we drink it. Like Sharon Stone's karma comment. Also, we should stop bitching because there are people without clean water in third-world countries, blah blah blah. Look, I know that there are people worse off than us. But it's still a giant pain in the ass to deal with this whole thing. I'm not saying "why me" or anything. But I'd rather not have to deal with it, you know?

On another completely different note, Keller is at the point in his development where he will say things that are going to embarrass the hell out of me. For instance, yesterday morning, I happened to pass some gas (oh, like you don't) and he told me to stop pooping. Ha! Then, later in the day, we were at the pool and I got out of the water. You know how when you get out of the water, the water is dripping off of your body and legs and stuff? Well, Keller saw the water dripping off my legs and he said, out loud I might add, that I was pee pee-ing. Nice. Now everyone thinks I was peeing in the pool. Great.

There you go. Two extremely exciting stories from my life. Now vote in the poll!

Papa Was A Rolling Stone

Even though I'm not a father, I think today was a pretty good Father's Day.

John and Keller went down to Williamsburg for Brittany's graduation Friday night. I didn't go because I had a really bad headache that was making it hard for me to see and hear. I felt pretty bad about missing the graduation, but sometimes health comes first, you know?

Anyway, John and Keller got home late Saturday night, after I had gone to bed. So, when we woke up this morning, it was a fun little mini-reunion. Keller gave John the card he colored and we gave him the gift certificate to Performance Bikes so he could get the bike helmet he's been wanting. He was pretty happy about that. After cards and gifts, John went on a nice bike ride. Apparently, he ran over a squirrel. It just ran out into the street. But he said it seemed like it wasn't hurt. I kind of wish I could have seen that.

In the meantime, Keller and I went to Starbucks. I got my non-fat latte and breakfast sandwich and he got his fruit and milk. It was a nice breakfast.

After Starbucks, we came home and gave Bee-ba (my dad) a call. They were enjoying breakfast. My brother and sister-in-law were coming over for a cook out this afternoon. It's times like this I wish we lived closer. I would have loved to spend the day with my dad and everyone. Anyway, after we got off the phone, we got ready for the pool. First, we went on a run and then headed over to the pool. I haven't pushed Keller in the jog stroller in a very long time. The stroller is 20 pounds, Keller is well over 30 pounds, plus all the crap I had to bring to the pool was stuffed in the stroller. Those 3 miles were hard! I had to make up a crazy route so we could get the 3 miles in without passing the pool. Keller would have cried if we ran by the pool and didn't go in. But we made it, eventually. We passed John on our run as he was heading back home. He was going to clean up and meet us there.

We met the Gies and Ronick families at the pool. Keller, Noah and Maya have such a great time together. We were there forever. Apparently, Keller gets pretty cold in the water because he was shivering after a while. The water wasn't cold and the air temperature was nice, so I don't know why he was so cold. Once his little lips turned a shade of blue, we knew it was time to go home.

We got home and had some lunch. Keller then went down for a nap. And so did John and I. We were pretty exhausted. Once everyone was up, we had a nice steak dinner with yummy potato salad and mixed greens. Yum!

I think John had a good day. He got to do his own thing and spend time with the family. And take a nap! Any day you can take a nap is a good day, in my book.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there!

Honk if you love three-day weekends...

Three-day weekends rock.

This past Memorial Day weekend was so nice! The only way it would have been better is if a briefcase with $1 million was left on our doorstep. Sadly, this did not happen and I think I just depressed myself. Oh well.

After work on Friday, once we were all home, we headed up to Costco in Frederick. We have been waiting to purchase a flat-screen TV for years. I wasn't working when they first came on the scene. They were just way too expensive and I couldn't see buying one at all. But this year marked John's 10th year with his organization and he received a nice bonus. Because this is a bonus, you're supposed to have fun with it. You know, he earned it. We went to Costco because they have excellent prices and they also extend the manufacturer's warranty for another year. Plus, the membership we have with Costco allows us to earn cash back on our annual purchases. Basically, Costco rocks. But I digress.

The TV is awesome! Seriously, I've never been a big electronics person and even I'm impressed. And Keller loves it! He was pretty mesmerized as he watched Sesame Street for the first time. I have a great photo of it and will post it when I get home tonight.

Saturday we went to breakfast with Mary and Noah, then played at the park for a while. Keller took a 4-hour nap, which was nice for everyone! We then went to the Washingtonian to walk around and enjoy the beautiful weather. Saturday night I went to dinner to say goodbye to my good friend, Stephanie. She is off to Connecticut to become the owner of the Fleet Feet Sports, Hartford store. I am very excited for her, but will miss her terribly. She left yesterday and I miss her already.

Sunday, we went to the park with Mary, Steve, and Noah in the morning. We went to Black Hills park and I think we'll have Keller's birthday party there this year. Anyway, we brought Lola with her (in her Memorial Day collar, of course). Somehow, she became a show pony and at one point, half the kids at the park were crowded around her to see her and pet her. Um, she's a dog. A Black Lab at that. It's not like she just landed from Mars and has green fur and is a sight to see. Don't get me wrong, Lola is pretty darn cute. Maybe it was her collar.

Sunday afternoon, we had friends over for a cookout. That was fun. I love the chaos of having people over. Kids running around, music playing, all of us together. You can't beat it.

Monday, we went to the pool in the morning. We got a pass for the pool in a nearby community because ours community doesn't have a pool. While the water was freezing, it was still nice. And somehow I managed to get sunburn on one of my shoulders (the left one). Guess I missed with the sunblock spray. Monday afternoon, we went over to Allison and Phil's for another cookout. It was great to have all of us together (the Silberman, Gies, and Gill families!). I'm looking forward to this summer.

So, this brings me to the question: why can't we have three-day weekends every week? Really, are we really that productive on Fridays? Or Mondays, for that matter? Especially in the summer. I guess if we always had three-day weekends, we'd then get greedy and want four. Both Friday and Monday off. Then nothing would ever get done and the country would collapse. But I don't think people would really want four days. I think three is the perfect amount. Saturday you usually spend running errands and other things, so it's not like you're really relaxing. Sunday you relax, maybe stay up late, have a few drinks. Then Monday you rest up for the work week. This could definitely work. I say we give it a try. Maybe if everyone calls in sick every Friday, the higher-ups will just have to give us the day off anyway. Let's give it a try this week and see what happens!
